Miss Nettie Mary Hewitt, one of the first white children born in the settlement of Waterloo, died at the home of her mother. Mrs. Mary L. Hewitt, 1125 Randolph Street., at 9 a. m. today.

Miss Hewitt was born on the homestead four miles south of the city on the La Porte road, which has been in the family's possession since 1857, on Jan. 21, 1859.

She received her education in the public schools of Waterloo and taught in schools of Butler and Black Hawk County. Later she taught at Topeka and Wellington, Ivan., and in Epworth seminary, near Dubuque.

Miss Hewitt and her mother resided at the homestead until about six months ago when they moved into town on account of her health.

She was a member of First Methodist Episcopal church and the funeral will be in charge of the pastor, Dr. Frank W. Court, from the residence at 2 p. m. Wednesday. Interment will be in the old Waterloo Cemetery.
