WATERLOO - Mary M. Burns, 87, of the Lutheran Home, Cedar Falls, formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005, at Covenant Medical Center.

She was born July 10, 1918, in Linn County, daughter of Joseph and Agnes McGraw Moroney. She married John C. Burns on Feb. 13, 1945, in Independence. He died March 13, 1999.

Mrs. Burns received her registered nurse diploma in 1944 from St. Josephs Mercy Hospital, Clinton, and was employed as a registered nurse at St. Francis Hospital (Covenant Medical Center) for 24 years, retiring in 1983. She was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church.

Survivors include six sons, John J. (Mary L.) of Waterloo, James R. (Nancy) and Thomas E., both of Marietta, Ga., Timothy C. (Violy) of Santa Cruz, Calif., Francis A. (Roxanne) of Mason City and Burton Tony (Gigi) of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Barbara M. (Alan Stewart) Burns of Ann Arbor, Mich.; eight grandchildren, Tara, Shawn, Brian, Andrew, Eric, Nicole, Stephanie and Bradley; three great-grandchildren, Brendon, Sebastian and Nicolas; a sister, Lorraine (Fred) Abel of LaVerne, Calif.; and a brother-in-law, Paul Burden of Clinton.

Preceded in death by three sisters, Generose Plamondon, Rita Craney and Regina Madonna Burden.

Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Queen of Peace Parish, Waterloo, with burial in Veterans Cemetery, Marshalltown. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She loved her family dearly, her church, and nursing.
