DENVER - Tommie “Tom” Joe Brettmann, 72, of Denver, died Saturday, July 12, 2014, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

He was born March 29, 1942, in Waterloo, son of Clarence and Daphine Busch Brettmann. On Jan. 13, 1962, he married Nancy Kolthoff.

Tom graduated from Denver High School in 1960. He began working for his father at the Denver Mill at a young age and eventually purchased the business in 1980, retiring in 2004. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Denver, Denver Volunteer Fire Department, Waterloo Bow Hunters Club and Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Survived by his wife; three daughters, Terri (Kevin) Huber and Shawn (Bob) Buhrow, both of Denver, and Tracy (Anthony) Lumetta of Cedar Falls; eight grandchildren, Cortney (Luke) Doepke of Denver, Casey (Beki) Huber of Waverly, Anthony II, Dana and Megan Lumetta, all of Cedar Falls, and Alexander (Grace Wadding), Austin and Benjamin Buhrow, all of Denver; five great-grandchildren, Mitchell, Holland, Jillian and Samuel Doepke, and Camden Huber; and a sister, Sally (Lyle) Happel of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by his parents; and two grandchildren, Ashley Huber and Joseph Lumetta.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, both in Denver. Visitation Tuesday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Denver, with family present 4 to 7 p.m. Visitation also an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.

Tom enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
