WATERLOO - Everett P. "Bergie" Bergmann, 85, of Waterloo, died Sunday, June 1, 2008, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.

He was born Aug. 24, 1922, in rural Ionia, son of Alvin and Helena Bremer Bergmann. He married Alice Murray on May 26, 1946, in Nashua. She preceded him in death.

Mr. Bergmann worked at Rath Packing Co. for 38 years, retiring in 1984, and had served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survived by three daughters, Linda Bergmann of Waterloo, Paula (Joseph) Weber of Traer and Gina (Kent) Kline of Solon; five grandchildren, Pete, Patrick, Charlie, John and Peyton; four great-grandchildren, Liberty, Derek, Noah and Jackson; a brother, Melvin (Elaine) Bergmann of Tripoli; and a sister, Darlene (Roger) Andrews of Frederika.

Preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael; a grandson, Aron; and three brothers, Clarence, Donald and Harley.

Services: 1 p.m. Thursday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and an hour before the services Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Bergie was a Detroit Tiger fan, enjoyed trout fishing, spending time with his family and telling war stories and other stories from the past.
