CEDAR FALLS - Debra “Dr. R” Donahue Riehle, 61, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, July 6, 2014, at Sartori Memorial Hospital.

She was born June 10, 1953, in Fort Madison, daughter of Walter and Dorothy Welp Donahue. She married Charles “Chuck” Riehle on June 14, 1986, in Des Moines.

Debra graduated from Northeast Hamilton High School, earned a bachelor's degree from Morningside, a master's degree from Drake University and a doctorate from the University of Phoenix. She was employed as a guidance counselor with many schools, including Waterloo West High School, Bunger and Central Middle Schools, Waverly-Shell Rock, Wapsie Valley, Saydell High School, and St. Mary in Martensdale. She also was the academic adviser for the Waterloo Black Hawks, and was involved in PEO and many educational organizations.

Survived by her husband; two daughters, Bindy (Sean) Comito Sornsin of Chicago and Kim Riehle of Seattle; a son, Joe (Nellie) of Olympia, Wash.; three grandchildren, Jonah Hieb, Raven and Wren Riehle; her father of Cedar Falls; and a brother, Steve (Sheril) Donahue of Normal, Ill.

Preceded in death by her mother.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, Cedar Falls. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Richardson Funeral Service and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Dr. R. served as a Waterloo Black Hawks’ housing parent for many years and was the 2012 recipient of the Karen Wente Award, given by the Waterloo Black Hawks.
