WATERLOO - Donald L. Hinz, 81, of Waterloo, died Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Lakeview Landing of Friendship Village.

He was born April 1, 1933, in Elma, son of Edward and Zerilda Vick Hinz. He married Janet Kappers on Nov. 24, 1956, and they later divorced. He married Vera Bahlmann on Oct. 1, 1965 in Waterloo; she died July 1, 2013.

Don served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for Rath Packing Co. for 31 years, until it closed in 1985. He was member of Celebration First Assembly of God.

Survived by three sons, David (Ellen) Bahlmann of West Salem, Wis., Steven (Margaret) Bahlmann of Hardeeville, S.C., and Ronald Hinz of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; two daughters, Nanci Bevard and Shari (Randy) Kelsey, both of Waterloo; 10 grandchildren, Kenney (Heidi) Bahlmann, Michael (Beverly) Bahlmann, Shelly (Daniel) Erpelding, Chelsey Bahlmann, Whitney (Gary) Herndon, Jeremy Bevard, Celena Brick, Solomon (Audrey) Hinz, Brandon Kelsey and Jillian (Josh) Schoonover; 17 great-grandchildren with one on the way; four sisters, Darlene “Dolly” Bird of Elma, Betty (Joe) Grober of Alta Vista, Beverly “Jeannie” (Ron) Teager of Grove, Okla., and Marilyn (Dick) Wright of Orchard; and a brother, Merle (Carmen) of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a sister, Lila Simons; two sisters in infancy; and a brother, Laverne “Bum."

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel, with burial in Waterloo Cemetery with military honors. Visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel.
