Fern Irene Ketels, 97, of Jesup, died Friday, June 20, 2014, at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha.

She was born Oct. 13, 1916, at Waterloo, daughter of James L. Griffith and Nora G. Lufkin Griffith. She married Leo M. Pint on May 29, 1940, in Independence. He preceded her in death in 1969. She married Rodman Baker on Oct. 7, 1974. He preceded her in death in 1975. On March 17, 1988, she married Leslie Ketels. He preceded her in death in 2005.

Fern was a teacher and a homemaker. She also worked at the Mental Health Institute for 13 years. She was instrumental in forming the Buchanan County Senior Citizens Center, and she was a member at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup.

Survived by six sons; Roger (Jaynie) Pint and Kenneth Pint, both of Independence, Bernard (Arnette) Pint of Iowa City, Russell (Debra) Pint of Waterloo, David Pint of Ocala, Fla., and Steven Pint of Arlington, Va.; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.

Preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Gerald in infancy and Alan Pint; a daughter, Leanne Heidt; two brothers, Jim Griffith and Victor Griffith; and a sister, Hazel Jensen.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, with burial in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Independence. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today at White Funeral Home, Jesup, with a parish rosary at 3:30 p.m. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to St. Athanasius Church and School.
