CEDAR FALLS - Gilbert Lyle Call, 93, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, June 15, 2014, at UnityPoint Hospice Affinity House, Waterloo.

He was born Sept. 20, 1920, in Westgate, son of Chester O. and Zola Johnson Call. He married Ruth Johnson on May 5, 1944, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls; she died Dec. 23, 2009.

A 1940 graduate of Waterloo West High School, Gilbert was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Before retirement, he worked for Standard Oil (Amoco) as a balk agent.

Survived by: a son, Lauren (Linda) of Waterloo; three grandchildren, David (Kari) Pierschbacker of Earlville, Jason (Tiffany) Pierschbacher of Clarksville, Tenn., and Kristy (Jay) Lowenberg of Kalona; and eight great-grandchildren, Megan, Ben and Laura Pierschbacher, Ruth and Jude Pierschbacher, and Gibson, Brock and Ruby Lowenberg.

Preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters.

Services: 9 a.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.
