WATERLOO - Henry E. Thies, 91, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born April 30, 1923, in Black Hawk County, son of Carl and Avis Chapin Thies. He married Agnes Oltrogge on Aug. 1, 1948, at Zion Lutheran Church, Readlyn. She died Sept. 28, 2011.

Henry farmed and worked in construction for several years. He then worked for the city of Waterloo Sewer Department and was a maintenance man at the Red Fox Inn. He and his wife owned A & H Furniture until 1961 and a wholesale grapevine wreath business for 15 years. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waterloo. He was on the Election Board for 37 years.

Survived by a son, Mike (Tina) of Waterloo; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Bill (Nannette) of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Blanche Moeller.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Locke Funeral Home.
