CEDAR FALLS - John S. Hughes, 87, of Paradise, Calif., formerly of Cedar Falls, died at home Friday, June 13, 2014.

He was born June 2, 1927, in Minnesota, son of Stanley and Edith Hughes. He married Doris, daughter of Oscar and Eva Herman, on April 17, 1949.

John graduated from West Waterloo High School and, soon after, joined the U.S. Navy in 1945. He retired in 1992 from the construction industry.

Survived by his wife, Doris; four children: Kenneth "Kenny Joe" Hughes of France, Melissa "Missy" Shrout, of Sacramento, Calif., Rebecca "Becky" Reynolds, of Roseville, Calif,. and Jeremy Hughes of Carmichael, Calif.; five grandchildren, Amy, Megan, Kyle, Ali and Ruby; and two great-grandchildren, Joel and Madison.

There will be no local services or arrangements.
