WATERLOO - Wesley W. Mahlstedt, 85, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at Covenant Medical Center from complications following a fall.

He was born Sept. 25, 1928, in Bremer County, son of Peter and Hulda Hagen Mahlstedt. He married Patricia Johnson on April 26, 1950, and they later divorced. He married Genevieve Van Dyke on Aug. 5, 1970; she died Nov. 17, 2008.

Mr. Mahlstedt was a supervisor at John Deere Tractor Works for 27 years, retiring in 1982. He was past president of the Waterloo Lions Club from 1992 to 1993.

Survived by a son, Richard (Jean) of Waterloo; two daughters, Kathy (Robert) Reimler of Chanhassen, Minn., and Julie (James Uhde) Jenney of Cedar Falls; two stepsons, Jon VanDyke of Carrolton, Texas, and Chad VanDyke of La Porte City; five grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by five brothers, William, Wilbur, Wendell, Willis, and Wayne in infancy; and two sisters, Norma and Nora Niemeyer.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, Waterloo, with burial in Harlan Cemetery, rural Dumont. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. today and an hour before services Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.

Wesley enjoyed playing cards, fishing, watching Hawkeye football and spending time with family.
