AVES, LuVerne Lyle 1924-2014

WATERLOO - LuVerne Lyle Aves, 89, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at UnityPoint Health - Allen Hospital.

He was born Oct. 7, 1924, in Marshalltown, son of Lyell and Marie Hennies Aves. He married Arline Gerberding on Feb. 19, 1948, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Waverly; she preceded him in death.

LuVerne attended Mason City High School, Mason City, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, earning rank of sergeant. He returned to Mason City and worked for Deckers. In 1951 he moved to Waverly and went to work for Shield Bantam, and in 1962 moved to Waterloo and worked for Martin Brothers, Cedar Falls, and later Martin Brothers, Waterloo.

Survived by five children, Jill (Gene) Dietrich of Marengo, Kim Aves of Plymouth, Minn., Fay Wandrey of Owatonna, Minn., Tim (Denise) Aves of Waterloo and Tracy (Alan) Knaeble of South Haven, Minn.; nine grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; two brothers, Ray (Mary) and Rick, both of Manly; five sisters, LaVonne (Roger) Clagett of Kensett, Lila Johnston of Henning, Minn., Jeanette (Harold) Galligan of New Hampton, Linda (Ozzie) Dahle-Melsaether of Manly and Susan Aves of Mason City; and a sister-in-law, Deb McArthur of Kensett.

Preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bobby; two sisters, Donna Olson and Shirley Wohler; and two sons-in-law, Leroy Sorensen and Butch Wandrey.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paulís Lutheran Church, with burial in Harlington Cemetery, both in Waverly. Visitation Friday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, with family present 4 to 7 p.m.
