WATERLOO - Alvira H. Wilson, 92, of Landmark Commons, died Monday, June 2, 2014, at Lakeview Landing of Friendship Village.

She was born June 10, 1921, in Ledyard, daughter of Edward and Marie Halvorson. She married Robert Paul Wilson on Oct. 31, 1943; he died Dec. 14, 1987.

Alvira earned a bachelor’s degree in home economics with a minor in music and English from Iowa State Teachers College in 1942 and a master’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1966. She was a school teacher and principal in Charter Oak and taught home economics at UNI.

Survived by two sons, David (Kathleen) of Chatham, Mass., and Dexter (Terri) of Waterloo; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a sister, Marvel Halvorson of Waterloo; and a nephew, Steven (Julie) Halvorson of Salt Lake City.

Preceded in death by a brother, Tilmer L. Halvorson.

Graveside services: 11 a.m. Monday at South Blue Earth Cemetery, Bricelyn, Minn. Locke Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church or Metropolitan Chorale.

Alvira was the first woman Student Council president from 1941-1942 at ISTC, a member of Torch & Tassel, Theta Theta Epsilon and Pi Tau Phi, the College Chorus, 60-year member of American Association of University Women, the Metropolitan Chorale and a charter member of Sons of Norway.
