WATERLOO - Kaylan Robert McLaren, 21, of Waterloo, died Friday, May 30, 2014, at Covenant Medical Center.

He was born April 25, 1993, in Morristown, Tenn., son of Jeffrey and Esa Marie Brown McLaren.

Kaylan graduated from Union High School, La Porte City, in 2011, then went on a mission trip to the Domican Republic. He then served in the U.S. Navy. He had worked several jobs in the area, most recently at Men’s Warehouse.

Survived by his father of Waterloo; his mother, Esa Marie Brown Talley of Rutledge, Tenn.; paternal grandparents, Robert and Evelyn McLaren of Dysart; four uncles, Tim (Mary) McLaren of Marion, Steve (Teri) McLaren of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Tom (Karen) McLaren of Germantown Hills, Ill., and Mike (Tami) McLaren of Dysart; an aunt, Diane (Mark) Huisenga of Marion; and 11 cousins.

Preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Theodore and Lulu Brown; and a cousin, Kelley McLaren.

Services: 8 p.m. Thursday at River's Edge Christian Church, where visitation begins at 5 p.m. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, An Overton Family Service, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial fund is being established.

Kaylan was an accomplished drummer and enjoyed skateboarding, snowboarding, fishing and karate. He especially loved Christ and was a member at River’s Edge Christian Church. Kaylan will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
