GILBERTVILLE - Ralph L. Keifer, 84, of Gilbertville, died Monday, June 2, 2014, at Lakeview Landing of natural causes.

He was born Sept. 13, 1929, in Chicago, son of Paul and Blanche Spencer Keifer. He married Maxine Reuter on June 19, 1951, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Raymond; she died Nov. 24, 2005.

A veteran of World War ll, Ralph had a rural milk route for Walnut Dairy for 10 years before working at IPS where he retired after 35 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Nugent-Demuth Post No 714, and a 2006 recipient of the Alzheimer’s Association Outstanding Volunteer award.

Survived by a daughter, Gail (Don) Dunnwald of Waverly; two sons, Mike of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Jim (Jody) of Jesup; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Jo Kueter; a son, Darrell; a brother, Paul; and a sister, Shirl Weber

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Raymond, where full military rites will be conducted by Nugent Demuth American Legion Post 714. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, Waterloo, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue at the church for an hour before services on Friday.

Memorials may be directed to the Bosco System or Lakeview Landing Medical Center.

Ralph was a loyal volunteer at Friendship Village for many years. He enjoyed “da Bears”, playing cards, gardening and fishing. Ralph and Maxine’s home in Gilbertville and their cabin on the Wapsi were places where their hospitality was enjoyed by many.
