WATERLOO - Robert H. “Bob” Versluis, 77, of Waterloo, died Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was born Feb. 5, 1937, in Waterloo, son of Emil J. and Madeleine M. Waerenberg Versluis. He married Carolyn M. Spece on March 25, 1960, and they later divorced. He married Mavis Lou Hopper on April 21, 1984, in Rock Springs, Wis.; she died April 26, 2014.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Bob had attended Jesup schools and had worked at Rath Packing Co. for 24 years, retiring in 1987.

Survived by four daughters, Sheryl A. Versluis of Independence, Anita (Brian) Vanous of Quasqueton, and Annette Jurgensen and Angela Thurman, both of Waterloo; two stepsons, Arnold Phillis of Fredericksburg and Anthony Phillis of Poplar Bluff, Mo; 12 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Helen Fernau of Raymond, and Jean Welch, Jane (Ronald) Lickiss and Audrie Hahn, all of Oelwein; and two brothers, Ronald (Nancy) of Cedar Falls and Jim of Mesa, Ariz.

Preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Grace Fernau and Frances “Fritzie” Meier; and a brother, Tom.

Memorial visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel, with burial and full military honors in Waterloo Cemetery at a later date. There will be no funeral service.
