EVANSDALE - William Hanken, 77, of Evansdale, died Monday, ÄJan. 9, 2006, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo.

He was born Oct. 2, 1928, in Oelwein, son of Alfred Bernard and Agnes Irene Dilley Hanken. He married Genevieve Gen Coleman April 14, 1950.

He was a 1946 graduate of Oelwein Sacred Heart High School and following graduation was employed at Oelwein Auto Supply and was also a member of the Oelwein Iowa National Guard.

Mr. Hanken and his wife moved to Lakota in 1952, where he was employed at Ley Motor Co. He was employed there for 40 years, first managing parts and service departments then as a grand master salesman. He also was past president of the Lakota Community Club, a Lakota volunteer firefighter and charter member of the Bancroft and Gruis Golf Course associations.

Survived by his wife; three sons, William (Lori) of Waterloo, Thomas T.J. (Debbie) of Colorado Springs, Colo., and James (Kim) of Layton, Utah; a daughter, Ann (Chuck) Champine of Dolliver; seven grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Carol (David) Ducommun of Woodridge, Ill.; and a sister-in-law, Diane Hanken of Marshalltown.

Preceded in death by a brother, Don.

Memorial services will take place in Lakota at a later date. The family will receive friends at the Hanken home.
