WATERLOO - John D. "Jack" Swinehart, 88, of Bridges Senior Living, Waterloo, died Thursday, May 29, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids.

He was born Feb. 17, 1926, in Waterloo, son of D.M. and Verna Steeley Swinehart. He married Barbara Glasson on May 21, 1949, in Waterloo; she died June 24, 2008.

Jack graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1944 and received his bachelor’s in business from the University of Iowa. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He owned Black Hawk County Abstract Co. and was a Waterloo Chamber Ambassador and a member of the Waterloo Airport Commission.

Survived by three sons: Paul (Robyn) of Cedar Rapids, David (Sue) of Fort Collins, Colo., and Jeff (Cheryl) of Aurora, Colo.; six grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.

Preceded in death by a sister, Gloria Annis

Services: 1 p.m. Monday in the Katharine Graham Pahl Chapel at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Alzheimer's Association.
