WATERLOO - Walter Earl Hove, 86, of Waterloo, formerly of Ridgeway, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center of congestive heart failure.

He was born May 1, 1919, south of Ridgeway, son of John Elmer and Alma Rue Hove. He married Helen Barthelme Jan. 29, 1947, in Cresco. She died in December 1996.

He graduated from Ridgeway High School in 1938 and then attended La Crosse Business College, La Crosse, Wis. Mr. Hove served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the anti-aircraft division in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines, and he also farmed for 50 years.

He became a director/agent of Norwegian Mutual Insurance Association, Decorah, in 1947, and in 1962 became secretary/treasurer and manager, which he served as until his retirement in 1981.

Survived by two daughters, Dianne (Dave) Hopperstad of Waterloo and Donna (Bob) Johnson of Urbandale; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four sisters-in-law.

Preceded in death by three brothers, Amos, Oran and Norman.

RServices: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Peace Lutheran Church, Ridgeway, with burial in Lincoln Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Conway Funeral Home, Cresco, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.
