WATERLOO - Maxine N. "Mickey" Gerst, 81, of Waterloo, died Monday, Sept. 5, 2005, at Allen Hospital.

She was born June 28, 1924, in Waterloo, daughter of George and Alice Pratt Ahlhelm. She married Eugene D. Gerst on Jan. 27, 1945, in Waterloo. He died July 21, 2001.

Mrs. Gerst was employed in food service with the Waterloo Schools, retiring in the late 1980s.

Survivors include five sons, Richard (Nancy), Gary (Donna), David (Kim) and Michael (Renee), all of Waterloo, and Dennis of Jesup; a daughter, Catherine (Dave) Knapp of Kansas City, Mo.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Bonnie (Martin) Fisher of Festina and Beverly Gerst of Pennsylvania.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church on Mulberry Street, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for an hour before services Thursday at the church.
