WATERLOO - Miriam Dorothy Lederman Turnbull, 85, formerly of Waterloo, Cedar Falls and Des Moines, died Aug. 23, 2005, at Attic Angel Place, Middleton, Wis.

She was born June 20, 1920, in Waterloo, daughter of Joseph Meyer and Bessie Abelson Lederman. She married James Gordon Turnbull on Aug. 28, 1945, in Chicago. He died Jan. 11, 2003.

Mrs. Turnbull graduated from Waterloo East High School and later from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls. She received her masters of social work from the University of Iowa, Iowa City. She was a social worker for many years in Waterloo and Des Moines. After retiring she served one term on the Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors; one year as the board chairwoman. She was active on many community service boards and also in the Democratic Party.

Survivors include a daughter, Toni J.T. (Ronald) Rewoldt of Cedar Falls; two sons, Thomas R. of Longmont, Colo., and George R. (Lauren Vogel) of Madison, Wis.; six grandchildren, Todd R. (Heather) of Loveland, Colo., Bethany J. of Madison, Rebecca C. of Cedar Falls, Jillian N., Hallie S. and Alana M. Turnbull, all of Madison; and three great-grandchildren, Josiah D., Gwendolyn L., and Naomi M. Rewoldt, all of Loveland.

Preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Marvin and M. Sidney Lederman; and a sister, Ruth D. Lederman Levinson.

Memorial services were Aug. 26 at Attic Angel Place .
