BUTENHOFF, WRIGHT, MOORE

John W. Butenhoff, who was a resident of Waterloo for 43 years, working as an engineer at the Herrick Refrigerator & Cold Storage Co., died Tuesday at his home in Los Angeles, Cal., where he has lived for the past 18 years. He had been ill a week, suffering from heart trouble. He was 76 years old.

Born in Pennsylvania in *1867, he came to Waterloo when 15 years old and lived here until 18 years ago, when he moved to Los Angeles to take employment with a farm implement company there.

He had been retired for several years. His last visit to Waterloo was three years ago.

He married Bessie Wright in Alexandria, Ia. She survives, wilh two daughters. Mrs. Jennie Moore, Des Moines, and Mrs. Lucie Moore, Shakleford, Mo., and two sons. J.
A. Butenhoff. Des Moines, and I. W. Butenhoff, 1109 Commercial Street. There are 15 grandchildren.

One daughter preceded him in death.

He was a member of a Baptist church in Los Angeles as well as the Moose lodge.

The body will arrive here Sunday morning and be taken to the Petersen Bros, chapel, where funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p. m. under the direction of Rev. A. L. Drake, minister of First Baptist Church. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.

*Note: His death certificate says he was born 12/1/1868 in Germany and the passenger list for the sailing ship Eugenie shows he was on board and arrived in New York, 5/27/1869 along with his parents and 2 other children. [Information provided by Don Hansen]
