WATERLOO - Joyce Cortright Poyner, 89, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born March 28, 1916, in New Hartford, daughter of Earl and Effie Strand Cortright. She married Loren W. Poyner on Jan. 20, 1934, in Iowa City. He died Nov. 25, 1981.

Mrs. Poyner worked for the American Red Cross for 13 years, retiring in 1966.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Turner of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Donna (Jim) Poyner of Casselberry, Fla., and Carole (Dave) Horneys of Mount Prospect, Ill.

Preceded in death by a grandson; and two brothers, Homer S. and Ken Cortright.

Memorial services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery chapel, with inurnment there. Friends may call for an hour before services Saturday at the cemetery chapel. Locke Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church or East Central Iowa Alzheimers Association.
