WATERLOO - Elizabeth B. “Betty” Taylor, 97, of Waterloo, died Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Friendship Village of natural causes.

She was born Dec. 2, 1916, in Stacyville, daughter of Jacob and Anna Heaman Simon. She married Leo “Red” Taylor on Jan. 31, 1948, in Waterloo. He died Jan. 22, 1996.

Betty worked as a machinist and later as a company clerk for John Deere Tractor Manufacturing Co. for 39 years. She was a member of the Legion of Mary and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Survived by a brother, Alfred M. Simon of Austin, Minn.; a sister, Margaret Anderson of Cedar Falls; a brother-in-law, Tom Miller of Waterloo; and 26 nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Martin Simon and Ralph (Cecelia) Simon; two sisters, Marcy Miller and Evangeline Simon in infancy; and a brother-in-law, Jim Anderson.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway Ave., where there will be a 4 p.m. Catholic Daughters of the Americas and Legion of Mary rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation will also be for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be made to St. Edward’s Catholic Church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
