CEDAR FALLS - David Gildersleeve Arrasmith, 86, died Saturday, May 3, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital.

He was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Ames, son of Lyman C. and Emma L. Gildersleeve Arrasmith. He married Margaret I. Sailer on Aug. 28, 1948, in Galesburg, Ill.

David graduated from Ames High School in 1945 and entered the U.S. Navy as an aircrewman, being discharged in 1946. He worked at several airports and car dealerships as a mechanic before moving to Cedar Falls. He worked for the Cedar Falls Community Schools from 1962 to 1987 when he had a heart attack and was disabled.

Survived by his wife; two daughters, Lael E. Arrasmith of Ames and Sue L. (Gerard “Rod”) Roman of South Whitley, Ind.; a son, John D. (Jayneen) of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; a brother Paul W.; and a sister, Dr. Jean Arrasmith.

Services: No services will be held. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo, is assisting the family.

A memorial fund is being established.

David and his wife traveled much of the country and enjoyed winters in Yuma, Ariz., and summers fishing in Canada. They traveled by motor home until it died in Arizona, then decided to stay at home in Cedar Falls and enjoyed short trips around the Midwest.
