WATERLOO - G. Brooks Rector, 89, of Northwood, formerly of Waterloo, died Sunday, June 14, 2009, at Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood, of natural causes.

She was born July 3, 1919, in Odebolt, daughter of Charles Martin and Alma Brooks Rector.

Ms. Rector graduated from Odebolt High School, then from Iowa State University. She began her career as a teacher until joining the American Red Cross during World War II. After the war, she worked stateside with the USO-YMCA for 12 years. She resumed teaching until her employment at the Extension Office in Wisconsin and then Waterloo, where she worked in the Home Economic program, retiring in 1986. She was an active member of PEO, Priscilla Circle of the Presbyterian Church, Sigma Alpha Iota, Pilot Club, ISU Women's Club, and a special group, "The Lunch Bunch."

Survived by three sisters, Sue Heathman of Waunakee, Wis., Marybelle (Kenneth) Block of Northwood and Nancy Bushnell of Concord, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Barbara Rector of Loveland, Colo.; and nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by a brother, Frederick Rector.

Memorial services: 1 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, with inurnment in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from noon until services Friday at the church. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to American Red Cross, the church or YWCA.

Brooks was an excellent musician and accompanied on piano with several groups including the Clark County Men's Chorus in Wisconsin - which performed at the Big Sing annually. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
