LAMONT - Leland Hansen, 86, of Lamont, died Saturday, June 4, 2005, after a short illness.

He was born Nov. 21, 1918, in La Porte City, son of Eberhard and Goldie Hansen. On Aug. 18, 1943, he married Neta Smith at the Urbana Christian Church, Urbana.

Mr. Hansen graduated from Urbana High School in 1937. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Aleutian Islands, the Ardennes, Central Europe, the Rhineland, and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He then drove a truck for H&W, Cedar Rapids, until 1955; farmed south of Lamont and raised registered Jersey dairy cattle; and worked for the Lamont Elevator and Gaffney Quarries, retiring in 1984.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Tish (Dick) Frye of Independence and Deb (Monte) Johnson of Raymond; two sons, Kenny (Myla) of Winthrop and Denny (Marilyn) of Solon; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Charlotte Whitenack of Fullerton, Calif.; and two brothers, Glen (Elnora) of Lakewood, Wis., and Bert (Pat) Hansen of Vinton.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Dick and Eldred; a brother-in-law, Don Whitenack; and a sister-in-law, Marian Hansen.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church, Lamont, with burial in Campton Cemetery, near Lamont, with full military honors. Friends may call from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Fawcetts Funeral Home, Lamont, with 7 p.m. Masonic services.

A memorial fund has been established.
