WATERLOO - H. Richard "Dick" Dawson, 78, of Waterloo, died Sunday, July 2, 2006, at Allen Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born Jan. 24, 1928, in Waterloo, son of Harold and Anna Buchner Dawson. He married Jeannine Finger on May 20, 1950, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Waterloo.

Mr. Dawson served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Japanese theater. He was a longtime truck driver and was a member of the Teamsters.

In his younger years, he and Jeannine enjoyed ballroom and square dancing and music jams. Later in life, they enjoyed the winters in Texas and a good Western movie.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Russell (Kathy) and Rich, both of Waterloo; two daughters, Sue Dawson and Karen Showalter, both of Waterloo; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lester (Hazel) and Larry (Roberta), both of Waterloo; and a sister, Virginia Wehr of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Dorothy Shields and Arlene Scoggin.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial with military honors in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service.

Memorial fund will be established.
