WATERLOO - Joan M. Nyman, 78, of Waterloo, died Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Affinity House after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born June 29, 1935, in Albert Lea, Minn., daughter of Harrison T. and Bernice Dilling Smith. She married Glen Nyman in Albert Lea on April 4, 1953.

Joan graduated from Albert Lea High School.

Survived by her husband; two sons, Randy (Pam) of Waterloo and Mike of Cedar Falls; four daughters, Laurie (Ken) Lubbert of Dike, Susan (Clark) Tally and Nancy (Kent) Troyer, both of Shawnee, Kan., and Lisa (Steve) Backer of Holland; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Sue Malenke of Jackson, Minn., and Shelly Callahan of Twin Lakes, Minn.

Preceded in death by her parents; an infant granddaughter; and a sister, Phyllis Bangert.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel, with burial in Waterloo Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the chapel and also for an hour before services on Monday.
