WATERLOO - The Rev. Henry B. Nelson, 79, of Friendship Village died Thursday, March 16, 2006, at Lakeview Landing.

He was born May 29, 1926, in Chicago, son of Erling and Nellie Dehli Nelson. He married Gladys A. Ristesund on June 5, 1948, in Sioux Falls, S.D.

He attended Northern Baptist Seminary, Chicago, Sioux Falls College, Sioux Falls, and finished his bachelor's degree at Bethel College and Seminary, St. Paul, Minn. He then earned his master's degree from the University of South Dakota.

The Rev. Nelson was pastor at various churches in Minnesota, Illinois, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Iowa, serving at First Baptist Church in Cedar Falls from 1969 to 1974.

Survived by his wife; five sons, Daniel (Bonnie) of Mason City, Robert and Stephen (Lori), both of Cedar Falls, Mark (Eve) of Sturtevant, Wis., and Greg (Robin) of Kenosha, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; and a sister, June Nelson of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Linne.

Services: 1 p.m. Monday at Prairie Lakes Church, Cedar Falls, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Richardson Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
