WATERLOO - Wilbur Dean "Bill" Vest, 72, of Waterloo, died Saturday, March 18, 2006, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home following a brief illness.

He was born Oct. 16, 1933, on a farm in rural Tama County, son of Wilbur and Leona Axon Vest. On Jan. 14, 1972, he married Roberta Maricle Sullivan.

Mr. Vest graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1951, then worked at Patten Brothers, farmed for a time, and worked for Hudson Dairy (later known at Anderson and Erickson). He then began employment with John Deere as a inspector, retiring in 1997. He also owned and operated Vest Upholstery for many years.

Survivors include his wife; three sons; Randy of Portage, Wis., Tony and Rob, both of Idaho; two daughters, Cindy Grim and Jennifer Vest, both of Waterloo; a stepson, Shawn Sullivan of Des Moines; a stepdaughter, Kelly Dugan of Birmingham, Ala.; 16 grandchildren and a great-grandchild; his mother of Traer; and two brothers, Larry of Traer and Bob of Oberlin, La.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, with burial in Garden of Memories. Public visitation 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel.
