WATERLOO - Dean Edward Rudig, 99, of Friendship Village, Waterloo, died Thursday, April 24, at Lakeview Landing of Friendship Village.

He was born April 9, 1915, in Huntington, Ind., son of Edward and Mattie Strock Rudig. He married Martha Kelch on March 2, 1940, in Wabash, Ind.

He graduated from Huntington High School in 1933 and received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in 1939. Dean began his career at Cummins Engine Co.; in 1949 he went to work for John Deere as a product engineer, retiring in 1979. He was a member of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church.

Survived by his wife; a son, David (June) of Menomonee Falls, Wis.; a daughter, Rebecca (Roy) Kern of Springfield, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Alan (Stacy) Rudig of Chilton, Wis., Jennifer Rudig of Menomonee Falls, Rebecca (Geoff) Parkins of Billings, Mont., Brian Rudig of Columbus, Ohio, Amy Kern, Daniel Kern and Laura (Jeff) Cole, all of Springfield; 13 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Max and Tessa Rudig, Caleb Miller, Jessica Ibes, Henry and Lydia Parkins, Jackson and Samuel Rudig and Bryan, Andrew, Jonathan and Tyler Cole.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Friendship Village Chapel, with burial before the service in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Locke Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to Waterloo Christian School.

Dean especially enjoyed making clocks of all kinds.
