RESPECTED LADY DEAD

Mrs. Ezra Westcott Called Home Thursday Morning

On last Thursday morning at her home about two miles northeast of Mt. Auburn, occurred the death of Mrs. Erza Wescott, one of the oldest and most highly respected ladies of this community. Mrs. Wescott had been sick with pneumonia for some weeks and her death did not come unexpected to her family and friends. The deceased was a kind and loving wife and mother, and a friend of all who knew her, and her death is deplored by a wide circle of friends and neighbors.

Miss Lydia Mitchell was born at Bath, Maine, on February 12, 1836. She was twice married. To her first union one son was born who has preceded her in death. Her early years were spent in Maine from which place she went with her folks to Cleveland and from there to Ottawa, Ill., where she was married going back to Cleveland for a time and then coming here after the death of her husband at that place. About eight years ago she was married to Ezra Westcott, who with her brothers and sister are left to mourn her death. The brothers and sisters who survive are as follows: Mrs. Mary Ann B. Frost, Rosella P. Rosenthal, and Elizabeth Curtiss of Minneapolis and Susan L. Amburn of Topeka, Kansas, D. M. Mitchell and Henry J. Mitchell of La Porte City.

Funeral services were held from her late residence last Saturday morning at ten o'clock conducted by Rev. Heeter, pastor of the Christian Church at Mt. Auburn, and was attended by a large number of friends and neighbors who had known and respected her in life. The remains were laid to rest in Westview Cemetery at La Porte City.
