LA PORTE CITY - Linda Kay Holschlag, 70, of Winterset, formerly of La Porte City, died Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Winterset Care Center.

She was born Sept. 24, 1943, in Guthrie Center, daughter of Wayne and Cleopha Guthrie Hager. She married William Holschlag and they later divorced.

Linda graduated from Casey High School, Casey, in 1961, and earned a bachelor’s degree from Iowa State Teacher’s College in 1965. She was an elementary school teacher for the Waterloo Community Schools and a substitute teacher in the La Porte City area for more than 16 years. She then worked for the Iowa Department of Human Services for 20 years until retiring.

Survived by two sons, Douglas (Jeannie) of La Porte City and David (Jennifer) of Mitchellville; five grandchildren, Jacob, Kaitlin, Derek, Emmet and Ethan; two brothers, Kevin (Elizabeth) Hager of Flower Mound, Texas, and Terry (Carolyn) Hager of Polk City; and a sister, Rita (Michael) Clissold of Dallas.

Preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Thursday at American Lutheran Church, La Porte City, preceded by an hour of visitation with the family. La Porte City Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Linda treasured spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, liked to travel and stay connected with friends.
