LA PORTE CITY - Harriet M. Hicks, 83, of La Porte City, formerly of Sterling, Ill., died Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo.

She was born Aug. 7, 1930, in Harmon, Ill., daughter of Edward P. and Agnes Meekel Blackburn. She married Robert F. Hicks on Jan. 14, 1967, in Florida; he died July 27, 2002.

In earlier years, Harriet worked at First National Bank and A&P grocery store in Sterling. She later worked at the La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center and Friendship Village, Waterloo.

Survived by a son, Michael (Linette) of La Porte City; a stepdaughter, Rita (Denny) Staebell of Waterloo; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a sister, Josephine (Russell) Slater of Sterling.

Preceded in death by her parents; a stepson, Bobby Hicks; a brother, Peter Blackburn; and four sisters, Teresa Lowrie, Roseann Blackburn, Eileen Blackburn and Mary Hicks.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, La Porte City. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at La Porte City Funeral Home, with a 4:30 p.m. rosary. A second visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Dixon, Ill., with a 7 p.m. committal service. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Dixon.
