CEDAR FALLS - Melvin H. Schoenfelder, 84, of Mallard Point, died at home Saturday, April 29, 2006.

He was born July 12, 1921, in Mitchell, S.D., son of Leo F. and Amanda C. Hagedorn Schoenfelder. He married Bette F. Sand on June 28, 1946, at Tyndall, S.D. She died March 5, 2000.

Mr. Schoenfelder was an air traffic controller for the FAA for 23 years, retiring in 1979, He also had served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater.

Survivors include two sons, Randy (Boneta) of Harper, Texas, and Scott of Mill Brook, Ala.; a daughter, Carmel "CJ" (Randy) Hines of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Preceded in death by infant twin sons, John and Francis.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Nazareth Lutheran Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Military flag-folding rites at the cemetery by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Public visitation 5 to 8 p.m. today at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
