EVANSDALE - Hugh Francis Murray, 76, of 436 Morrell Ave., died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at the Lutheran Home, Cedar Falls, of natural causes.

He was born Oct. 22, 1928, in Lawler, son of Frank and Sarah "Sadie" Lynch Murray. He married Kathleen Ann Gerst on April 22, 1950, at St. Marys Catholic Church, Waterloo. She died Feb. 16, 2000.

Mr. Murray was employed in millwright at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 40 years, retiring in 1987. He had served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1948.

Survivors include two sons, James Joseph (Linda) of La Porte City and Lawrence Lee of Fredericksburg; three daughters, Diana Lynn (Rick) Tagtow of Fairbank, Connie Ann Carter (Tom) Duffy of Dunkerton and Roberta Rae (Cliff) Gray of Waterloo; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by three sisters and brothers-in-law, Lorraine (Forrest) Thatcher, Lois (Edward) Campbell and Georgiana (William) Pitz.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Queen of Peace School Chapel on East Fourth Street, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, Waterloo, with a 5 p.m. Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
