WATERLOO - Dennis L. Nation, 67, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born June 14, 1938, in Waterloo, son of Virgil L. and Grace K. Holdiman Nation. He married Darlene Salisbury June 3, 1961, in Fairbank, and they were later divorced.

Mr. Nation was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was employed for 38 years with the Chicago Central Railroad, retiring in 1998.

Survived by his mother of Independence; two sons, Jim (Ann) of Waterloo and Brad (Heather) of Dunkerton; two daughters, Denise Nation of Dunkerton and Julie (Roger) Schares of Jesup; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; two sisters, Janice Nation of Jesup and Patti (Cliff) Stacy of Brandon; and four brothers, Bill of Harpers Ferry, Dale (Carol) of Jesup, and Rick (Dianne) and Brian (Connie), both of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by his father.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where military rites will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623 and American Legion Post 138. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and for an hour before services Saturday at the funeral home.
