[Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, Tuesday, February 1, 2005]

Kathryn Hall Clark, 77, of Osprey, Fla., and formerly of Waterloo, died peacefully on Jan. 27, 2005, from complications of Parkinson's disease.

Born Kathryn Cecelia on Sept. 3, 1927, in Petersville, Md., she was the daughter of Kathryn Mary Quinn and George Thomas Hall. After studying at Madison College in Harrisonburg, Va., she trained as a medical technician at Garfield Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C., where she worked until she married Dr. Gilbert R. Clark. Upon completion of his internship, they moved to Waterloo where he was Chief Pathologist at St. Francis Hospital and she was a homemaker.

Following the death of her eldest daughter, Ann, in 1978, she became a founding member of one of the earliest U.S. chapters of The Compassionate Friends located in Cedar Falls. The Compassionate Friends, a national nonprofit organization, assists families toward the positive resolution of grief following the
death of a child.

In 1984, she and her husband moved to Osprey, Fla. Over the years they cruised widely from the Florida Gulf Coast to the Chesapeake Bay on their yacht, "The Spindrift." A day rarely passed that she could not be found doing a crossword puzzle. For many years until her death, she was an avid candy maker and duplicate bridge player. Mrs. Clark's husband of 50 years, Gilbert Reed Clark, passed away eight months ago. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Ann Clark, and her brother, George Thomas Hall Jr.

Her survivors include two daughters, Joan Clark of Richmond, Va., and Kathryn Clark Campbell of Brookings, S.D.; two sons, Gilbert Michael Clark of Houston, Texas, and Reed Andrew Clark of New York, N.Y.; one sister: Patricia Ann Hall of Silver Spring, Md.; and seven grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held later this month in Osprey, Fla., with internment of ashes at a later date in Waterloo at Mount Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, 838 South Tamiami Trail, Osprey, FL 34229, or St. Bridget's Catholic Church, 6006 Three

Chopt Road, Richmond, VA 23226.
