WATERLOO - Vernie H. Lohnes, 78, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center.

Mrs. Lohnes was born March 4, 1926, in Waterloo, daughter of Harry and Mildred (Furlong) Hoffman. Mrs. Lohnes graduated from East Waterloo High School in 1944. She married her high school sweetheart Don Lohnes April 6, 1946, in Waterloo. Throughout her life, Mrs. Lohnes was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her husband, Don; children, Jean Peters (San Diego, Calif.), David Lohnes (Evansdale), and Lisa (Mark) Lane (Waterloo); and her grandchildren, Katie and Megan Lane.

Preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Julie Ann; and son-in-law, Eric Peters.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to the Westminster Presbyterian Endowment Fund or Alzheimer's Association of East Central Iowa.
