Loretta Tiedt, age 93, formerly of Waterloo, died March 29, 2014, in New Prague, Minn. Funeral services 9:30 a.m. April 5 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Northfield, Minn., with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo, with visitation at the cemetery chapel beginning at 3 p.m.

Loretta Tiedt is survived by daughter Jean (Mark) Dolezal of New Prague; son Robert (Rosemary) Tiedt of Aylesford, Nova Scotia; sister-in-law Viola Lentzkow of Evansdale; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Walter and Wesley, sons Lowell and Gary; sister Helen Schwake, and brothers Leonard and Ralph Lentzkow.

Loretta Tiedt, age 93 formerly of rural Waterford, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the Mala Strana Health Care Center in New Prague. Funeral Services will be 9:30 am Saturday, April 5th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Northfield with visitation Saturday at the Church 1 hour prior to Services. Burial will be 3:30 Saturday at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo, Iowa with visitation at the Cemetery Chapel beginning at 3:00 pm.

Loretta Helen Tiedt was born at home December 16, 1920 near Sumner, IA, daughter of Max and Sophie (Meier) Lentzkow. She was raised on the family farm and attended Buck Creek Country School near Westgate, IA. Following school she stayed at home helping her family on the farm. On October 30, 1941 she was united in marriage to Walter Edward Tiedt in Sumner, IA.

After their marriage the couple farmed for 5 years near Sumner and then moved to Waterloo. In 1952 they moved to Isanti, MN where they farmed and Walter began working at the Ford Plant in St Paul. In 1959 the family moved to their farm on Hwy 47 near Waterford, MN. Loretta loved the farm life. She worked with the dairy cattle, did field prep and planting, raised 4 children, and always maintained a large garden. In her later years the farm was rented out and she and Walter enjoyed traveling, fishing, camping, and visiting with all 4 children and seeing their grandchildren.

In retirement Loretta took up quilting and made many hand stitched quilts over the years which she gave to members of her family. This was something that she took great pride in. Walter passed away August 5, 1991 and Loretta remained on their farm. On December 5, 1992 she married Wesley Stohr and he passed away in 1997. In 1998 Loretta was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and resided with her daughter in New Prague until going to the Mala Strana Health Care Center in 2007.

Loretta Tiedt is survived by daughter Jean (Mark) Dolezal of New Prague; son Robert (Rosemary) Tiedt of Aylesford, Nova Scotia; sister-in-law Viola Lentzkow of Evansdale, IA; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and 4 daughters-in-law Donna, Carol, Elain, and Marleen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Walter and Wesley; sons Lowell and Gary; sister Helen Schwake, brothers Leonard and Ralph Lentzkow; and grandson Christain Handrich.
