WATERLOO -- Lawrence William “Bill” Westemeier, 81, of Waterloo, died Monday, March 31, 2014, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was born Jan. 21, 1933, in Waterloo, son of Lawrence William Sr. and Viola Schnieders Westemeier. He married Rhonda Thompson on April 22, 1957, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Waterloo; she died Oct. 19, 2008.

A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, Bill was employed with John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 42 years, retiring in 1995. After retirement he was employed with Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survived by two sons, Michael (Patty) of Waterloo and Mark (Julie) of Arlington, Va.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, LeRoy (Norma) of Jesup, Tom (Mary Kay) of Waterloo and Gene (Joan) of Arizona; and two sisters, Mary Jo Schneider of Waterloo and Susie (J.R.) Hendricks of Marion.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and Don; and four sisters, LuAnn Sheffler, Verna Coffin, Dorothy Fecht and Helen Lamos.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Full graveside military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with a 4 p.m. rosary and 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
