WATERLOO - Melba H. McGivern, 92, of Waterloo died Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born Nov. 23, 1913, in Marengo, daughter of John M. and Eva Catherine Fetzer Gahring. She married Mark L. McGivern Dec. 25, 1940, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Marengo.

Mrs. McGivern graduated from Marengo High School and taught country school near Marengo from 1933 to 1940, when she married and moved to Waterloo. She worked at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids during World War II. She was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church since 1951.

Survived by her husband; a daughter, Patricia A. (Randal K. Robinson) McGivern of Waterloo; a grandson, Brian K. Robinson of Waterloo; and a brother, Charles (Selma) Gahring of Keystone.

Preceded in death by her parents.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Marengo. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.
