Mary E. Blocker, 92, of 3523 Stoney Point Road SW, passed away February 13, 2009 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha after a lingering illness.

Mary was born June 24, 1916 in Toledo, Iowa the daughter of Joseph and Katherine (Waterbeck) Machacek. She married Albert Blocker, of Traer, in 1936. He preceded her in death in 1944.

Mary moved to Cedar Rapids in 1956 and was employed by Armstrong's and Killian's until her retirement. She volunteered at Mercy Hospital for several years. She had made her home with her daughter since 2007. Mary's greatest joy was helping and doing for other people.

Survivors include her daughter, Marie Sandquist; grandchildren Sandra Nelson, Rita Blessing, and John Gabrielson; as well as 9 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

The family is very grateful to Hospice of Mercy for their love and support at this sad time.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Matthew Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at 10:00 AM. Rev. Mark Osterhaus will officiate.
