WATERLOO - John Stephen Patin, 89, of Waterloo, died Monday, March 31, at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital, Iowa Falls.

He was born March 27, 1925, in New Roads, La., son of Samuel Omer and Marie Louise Lorio Patin. He was married to Marjorie Karstendiek and later Lyola Baker; they both preceded him in death.

Stephen graduated from Louisiana State University with an agricultural engineering degree. He was employed at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works, retiring in 1982 as a hydraulics engineer. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Waterloo.

Survived by four daughters, Claire (Lee) Patin Geiken of Indianola, Julie (Tom) Larson of Bellaire, Texas, Louise (Charles) Weller of Bedford and Marion (Ron) Gehrke of Alden; a son, John (Marcia) of Waterloo; nine grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Mary Grace Patin Mougeout of New Roads; and a brother, Bernard of Georgetown, Texas.

Preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Ludovic T., Lorio R., Roger V. "Mike" and and Dick S.; and three sisters, Claire Langlois, Elouise and Ada Holloway.

Private family services: will be held at a later date, with private burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Waterloo. Linn’s Funeral Homes Iowa Falls Chapel assisted the family with arrangements.
