LaVonne J. Bearbower, 86, of Brandon, died Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at Windsor Manor, Vinton, following a brief illness.
She was born Sept. 15, 1927, in Waterloo, daughter of Clarence and Delores Jackson Hartung. On July 15, 1945, she married Leo G. “Dutch” Bearbower at Brandon United Methodist Church parsonage; he died Sept. 17, 2010.
LaVonne graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1945, and during high school worked at a laundry service in Waterloo. She and her husband farmed near Brandon, and she also worked at the Brandon grocery store and Fuller Brush. She was a member of Brandon United Methodist Church.
Survived by two sons, Larry (Elaine) of Vinton and Les (Jeannine Peyton) of Brandon; a daughter-in-law, Peg Bearbower of Vinton; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents; a son, Linn; and a brother, Buster Spars.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Brandon United Methodist Church, with burial at 1:30 p.m. in Brandon Cemetery. Visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home, Vinton, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.
Memorial fund has been established.
