CEDAR FALLS - Evelyn “Sue” R. Holst, 81, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, March 20, 2014, at Western Home Communities Elizabeth Martin Health Center.

She was born Oct. 18, 1932, in Hudson, daughter of Laurence and Anna (Ulrik) Prostine. She married Martin T. Holst on June 16, 1957, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls. He died Dec. 17, 2009.

Sue received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa and later studied at Iowa State University. She was a teacher for seven years and a Welcome Wagon representative for 24 years, retiring in 1998. Sue also was a member of Cedar Valley Danes, the Woodland Investment Club and was a charter member of the Altrusa Club of Cedar Falls.

Survived by four sons, Martin P. (Lauren) Holst of Cedar Falls, John C. (Dina) Holst of Saratoga, Calif., Paul D. (Andrea) Holst of Cedar Falls and David T. (Jennifer) Holst of West Des Moines; six grandchildren, Gwendolyn Holst, Jeremy Holst, Paige King, Thor Holst, Wolfgang Holst and Tyr Holst; and two brothers, Robert (Loretta) Prostine of Marion and Herluf (Loris) Prostine of New Hartford.

Preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Kenneth Prostine; and a nephew, Scott Prostine.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with burial at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Museum of Danish America in Elk Horn or Bremwood Lutheran Services of Iowa.
