WATERLOO - Ray Carrothers, 86, of Parkview Gardens Care Center, formerly of 1002 W. Fourth St., died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.

He was born Dec. 14, 1914, in Masonville, son of Mr. Carrothers and Grace Simons Carrothers. He married Mary Ellen Girsch on Jan. 2, 1971, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Waterloo. She died April 26, 1980.

Mr. Carrothers was a chef at Sunnyside Country Club for a number of years, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survived by: four sisters-in-law, Esther Brown of La Porte City, Joan Bookmeier of South Lyon, Mich., Pat Milne of Vinton and Luanne Haigh of Mesa, Ariz.

Graveside services: 1 p.m. Monday at West View Cemetery, La Porte City.

Memorials: may be directed to the family in care of James Hollingsworth, 411 Ankeny St., Waterloo.

Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball is in charge of arrangements.
