WATERLOO - Jack Clark Gross, 75, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2005.

He was born Sept. 11, 1929, in Fredericksburg, son of Champ and Leola Gross.

He was a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951 to 1957, served in the Korean War, and was later on the staff of Leatherneck magazine. After being honorably discharged, Jack returned to Iowa to continue his familys auction business for the next 21 years. He then moved his family to Harlingen, Texas, in 1978 and became the public relations specialist and alumni director for the Marine Military Academy.

Mr. Gross later served as the chairman of the Weslaco Chamber of Commerce. After retiring, he became a reporter for the Wilson County News in Floresville, Texas. Jack was an avid lover of horses, trained them in the art of dressage, and wrote a book on the subject.

Survived by two sons, Michael (Denise) Gross of San Antonio and Daniel Gross (partner, Brian Payne) of Seattle; two grandchildren, Paige Gross and Matthew Gross of San Antonio; two sisters, Gaye Hoth of Minneapolis and Nancy Lee Methenitis of Lacey, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.

Services 10:30 a.m. Monday at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, with full military honors. Kerrville Funeral Home, Kerrville, Texas, is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Marine Military Academy, 320 Iwo Jima Blvd., Harlingen, Texas 78550.
