Washburn, Iowa., Sept. 5.— Nicholas Kemp, one of the best known residents of this section, died this morning after a long Illness of tuberculosis, at the age of 62. He owned a fine farm east of town, but of late had lived In Washburn.

He was born in Luxemburg, Germany, July 28, 1848, and came to this country In 1867. For a time he resided in Dubuque County and then came to Black Hawk County, having been a resident here for 33 years.

Mr. Kemp was married Feb. 6, 1878, to Lena Gassmann, who died In 1884. She was the mother of four children, the oldest of whom died In boyhood. The other three are John, Nicholas and Joseph. Mr. Kemp was married a second time on Aug. 28, 1886, to Anna Frost. Seven children were born to them— Peter, Henry, William, Katie, Leo, Albert and Hubbert.

Deceased was a member of the Catholic church at Gilbertvllle, and was a man highly esteemed and prominent in his community.
